Transfer deadline day: Wolves looked at Arthur Melo, he's set to join Liverpool today

Wolves reportedly took a look at Arthur Melo, with the midfielder set to join Liverpool today.

According to Daily Mail reporter Dominic King, Wanderers showed an interest in the Juventus star, as did Valencia.

But Wolves are seemingly not about to make any late move for him.

It’s the Reds who are now being heavily linked with the player. Fabrizio Romano has reported that he is due for a medical this afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp has a number of injuries at the moment and needs cover for his engine room. Jordan Henderson suffered a serious hamstring injury in their 2-1 win over Newcastle United last night.

Arthur made 31 appearances for Juve last term. But he is yet to get any minutes in 2022/23.

The 26-year-old has been with the club since the summer of 2020, with the Italian giants paying Barcelona an initial £66 million.

Arthur has gone on to make 63 appearances for the club.

Arthur can operate as a holding midfielder or a box-to-box player.

In the end, Wolves went and signed a high quality box-to-box star in the form of Matheus Nunes, who was actually also on Liverpool’s radar a few weeks ago.

Wolves broke their transfer record to sign the 24-year-old, and he is a major coup for the club.

An interesting claim about Wolves looking at Arthur Melo, with midfielder now set to join Liverpool

This is a very interesting claim.

Arthur is a player that was really coveted only a couple of years ago.

But the star’s form in recent times has been a little underwhelming. Guillem Balague has said today that it just hasn’t really worked out for him at Juventus, and that Max Allegri’s system hasn’t suited him.

Wolves can be pleased with their deal for Nunes, who seemingly has a better all-round game than Arthur, and has a higher ceiling.

It will be interesting though to see how Arthur gets on in the Premier League, should he complete his move to Anfield today as expected.
