Wolves are used to seeing some of their biggest names leave in the summer transfer window, and the situation is normally unavoidable.
Matheus Cunha announced he wanted to leave Wolves in March, preferring his exit to be confirmed before the end of the 2024/25 season.
Cunha’s £62.5 million transfer to Manchester United was finalised at the start of June, and he was closely followed out of the door by Rayan Ait-Nouri, whose exit to Manchester City was far more professional.
Wolves are set to replace Cunha by signing Jhon Arias, with the Fluminense winger to undergo his medical in Wolverhampton next week.
But whilst the Colombian is set to become their second signing of the summer, Vitor Pereira is also keen on keeping the rest of his prized assets.

Tottenham have a ‘genuine interest’ in Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes
Last week, Juventus were linked with Andre, seeing the 24-year-old as a possible replacement for Douglas Luiz.
Wolves responded to Andre’s Juventus links by insisting he isn’t for sale, which was music to the ears of a fanbase who have grown to love the midfield metronome.
Unfortunately, the Wanderers aren’t just batting off enquiries for Andre, as midfield compatriot Joao Gomes is also drawing unwanted transfer attention.
Molineux News revealed in March that Tottenham were one of the clubs keen on Gomes. Transfer expert Graeme Bailey claimed Wolves wanted to keep the Brazil international for another season.
Months later, Ben Jacobs has reaffirmed that Spurs have a ‘genuine interest’ in the former Flamengo star while claiming he’s ‘one to watch’ this summer.
“There is a genuine interest in Wolves’ Joao Gomes, who is ranked pretty highly in terms of duels won, and also his ability to recover the ball, and is a good progressive passer. So that might be one to watch too,” Jacobs said on the Spurs Related podcast.
Gomes was phenomenal for Pereira last term, forming an indispensable partnership alongside the ‘world-class’ Andre in the engine room.
As a result, it would take a mammoth bid from Tottenham or any other club for Wolves to consider selling the 24-year-old.

Why Gomes is one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders
Gomes, who cost Wolves £15 million in 2023, is a ball-winning machine in the heart of the Wanderers midfield, and across the past few seasons, the Brazilian has ranked extremely high for most tackles.
In 2024/25, only Idrissa Gueye and Daniel Munoz made more tackles than Gomes, which demonstrates his unwavering desire to win possession back.
Premier League players with most tackles 2024/25 |
Idrissa Gueye – 133 |
Daniel Munoz – 123 |
Joao Gomes – 116 |
Noussair Mazraoui – 115 |
Moises Caicedo – 114 |
Breaking up play is the most important part of his game, but the Wolves midfielder is also excellent at keeping possession, recording a pass completion of 86% in the Premier League last term.
It explains why Tottenham have had him on their radar for a while, as he’s one of the best defensive-minded midfielders in the division.
