Three clubs want to land £27.5m Wolves player after underwhelming loan

Wolves winger Goncalo Guedes has emerged as a target for three clubs, having struggled for minutes on loan at Benfica this season.

The 27-year-old returned to the Portuguese giants for another spell in the summer, after spending the second half of last season on loan there.

His time at the club was affected by injury, with the player undergoing knee surgery twice.

Wolves decided to loan him back there for the 2023/24 season in the hope that he would be able to kick on. That has not been the case, with Guedes making just 13 appearances for a total of 271 minutes.

Now, it looks as though Guedes might be set for a new move this month…

Granted, Guedes came into the new season still recovering from his last knee surgery, but the winger has been fit since the end of September, and regular minutes under Roger Schmidt just haven’t been forthcoming since his return.

He can’t get into the side over the likes of Rafa Silva, Joao Mario, Angel Di Maria, David Neres, Petar Musa, Arthur Cabral and Casper Tengstedt, and it looks as though Wolves may now seek to facilitate a fresh move.

According to O Jogo, his situation could soon undergo a drastic change.

The player is unsure of his situation right now but apparently, there is interest from Spain in the form of Villarreal and another Spanish club There is also an unnamed Saudi club on his tail.

Villarreal’s interest is intriguing because they’re managed by Marcelino Toral, who worked with Guedes at Valencia.

Wolves’ move for Guedes proving a terrible deal

Wolves have made some great signings in recent times but also some really poor ones and the Guedes deal might be the worst for some time.

He signed for the club after being linked for a long time, and hopes were very high for the Portugal international.

But Guedes’ performances were mostly poor while he was in a Wolves shirt, and Julen Lopetegui had said just before the winger left that he didn’t want to be at the club.

Guedes’ time on loan at Benfica has not been fruitful, and Wolves are now in a situation whereby it looks like they will be taking a fair financial hit on a player that cost £27.5 million, presuming he still doesn’t want to play for the club.

A couple of months ago, it was suggested that Guedes still wanted to leave Molineux permanently.
