There’s one more big reason for Wolves fans to fear Joao Gomes leaving for Man United

The future of Joao Gomes is a big talking point at the moment, and there’s another reason why fans ought to fear a January exit for the midfielder.

Gomes is the subject of interest from Manchester United, who are looking for a new midfielder for the long term.

The Red Devils have actually admired Joao Gomes for quite some time, but speculation has been picking up recently about a possible January swoop.

How much is Joao Gomes worth in today’s market?

It was claimed that United feel Gomes is a more attainable target than others on their list.

And so, there are now fears for Wolves fans that Gomes could be on his way out in the next window.

While some would like to hope that Gomes wouldn’t jump ship, there is potentially one factor that may end up proving significant.

It looks like United really could try to sign Gomes in January.

They can obviously see Wolves really struggling, and may well feel they can capitalise on the situation by moving for Gomes.

Many Wolves fans would hate to see him leave.

But there is potentially one key factor that could come into play for Wolves’ number eight, and that is that Casemiro is thought to be one of his footballing idols.

The Athletic reported previously that Casemiro, Sergio Busquets and Ronaldinho were all references for Gomes.

So while United are looking for a long-term successor for Casemiro, Gomes may not want to pass up an opportunity to play with someone he thinks so highly of.

Of course, Gomes does know Casemiro from the Brazil national team.

But he might really want to play club football with him at Old Trafford before the veteran moves on.

There’s also the Matheus Cunha factor

Not only does one of Gomes’ idols play for United, but so does one of his close friends.

Wolves fans know that Gomes had a great relationship with Matheus Cunha at Molineux – and there is a chance here for them to become teammates once again.

Cunha has previously heaped praise on Gomes, even likening him to Casemiro. He said (via MEN Sport): “Maybe Casemiro. He is a bit older now, but I put Casemiro’s name there only to show where Joao Gomes could arrive.

If reports prove to be accurate, Joao Gomes could become one of the biggest sales ever at Wolves

“I think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that.”

“He is unbelievable on the pitch. I feel very secure. I feel like I can lose the ball when I have my midfielders behind me. He played very well for the national team, too.”

Wolves fans will really hope Gomes doesn’t go. But certainly, there are some big draws for him to want to join United.
