The surprising element of Wolves’ contract offer to Jhon Arias, it’s a ‘significant difference’ to his Fluminense deal

Jhon Arias to Wolves is turning into a bit of a transfer saga.

On Monday, there was word that Wolves were set to sign Arias from Fluminense after an agreement was reached.

But today reports in Brazil have suggested claims of an agreement for Wolves over Arias are actually premature.

There is a feeling at Fluminense that the transfer is still likely to go ahead.

But for now, there’s no agreement – but Arias is keen to join Wolves, and it’s his dream to play in Europe.

Fans are hoping that this will not drag on too much longer – especially now that pre-season has commenced with Wolves playing their first training match on Tuesday against Santa Clara.

Wolves need Arias in as quickly as possible so he can settle in his new environment.

And it seems the club are very much banking on the player dreaming of playing in Europe, given what’s being claimed about the contract proposal they have sent to him.

Seemingly, Arias is not a man who is motivated by money.

It was claimed on Tuesday that Arias rejected a lucrative offer to play in Saudi Arabia.

And now, Globo Esporte have reported that Arias is set to earn less money at Wolves than what he’s currently earning now at Fluminense.

Arias signed a new contract back in February that saw him become the highest earning player at the club.

But Globo say that Wolves’ contract proposal ‘would be a significant difference’ from what he earns at the moment, which is somewhat surprising.

But Arias, it’s stated, would indeed be willing to reduce his salary to make the move happen.

Globo say that Arias has twice expressed his desire to leave Fluminense in recent weeks, with Arias apparently making it clear he would like to leave if a proposal from the Premier League arrived.

The Fluminense management are said to be understanding of Arias’ feelings, as much as they don’t want to lose him.

Arias salary claim is a good sign as Wolves seek to tie up transfer

It can only be a positive that Arias is willing to take a fairly big reduction in salary to come and play for Wolves.

He is very clearly keen on the idea of playing in the Premier League, and he would be coming for the right reasons. Plenty of players these days just come for the huge wages that are on offer from a lot of clubs.

It is now on Wolves to see that this transfer deal gets tied up relatively soon, and that it does not become a long, drawn out saga, especially with pre-season training having now begun.

Arias would be a top signing for Wolves, being a player who is versatile, good in the final third and ready to make an impact now.
