The 11 words Vitor Pereira just said about Matheus Cunha will encourage Wolves fans

Wolves will look to beat Newcastle United in the Premier League tonight and key to that will be Matheus Cunha being on top form.

Cunha delighted fans by posting a photo of himself training at Compton– last week, in a hint that he’d be available to play again after injury.

Then yesterday, Pereira gave a positive injury update, saying Cunha would indeed be back for the Newcastle game, along with Nelson Semedo and Craig Dawson.

Cunha’s return to the side will be most welcome.

Against Nottingham Forest, Wolves squandered several good chances and just lacked that cutting edge on the night. Jorgen Strand Larsen had a particularly frustrating evening.

But Cunha will be playing tonight and Wolves fans hope his return will inspire those around him.

Speculation about Cunha still persits. But Pereira made one remark yesterday that will calm some worried supporters down.

Leading into the transfer window, there was so much talk about Cunha and his future.

Cunha has transfer interest from several big clubs and has done for a while, but Wolves are adamant they want to keep the player.

As such, the club recently opened talks over a new contract for Cunha at Molineux. It’s thought Cunha has verbally agreed to sign a new contract, but there hasn’t yet been any official announcement from Wolves.

Perhaps it is just a case of the finer details still being ironed out.

But seemingly there’s no real danger of Cunha leaving in this window.

Pereira said at his press conference yesterday (via BBC Sport): “In the conversations that we have together, he is very comfortable. He’s very happy with his role in the team. If he’s happy, I’m happy. If he plays at a high level, I’m happy for him.”

When asked about Cunha’s future, he said: “I don’t know – you must ask the club.”

But Pereira rounded off with 11 words that will leave fans encouraged. “He’s my player and I won’t lose sleep thinking about it.”

Pereira seems confident over Cunha

There has been silence over the last few days regarding Cunha, but Pereira certainly doesn’t sound too concerned about the player and his future.

Wolves know that it would be absolute madness for Cunha to leave the club now, when the situation is still very precarious.

There seems to be confidence that this contract will be agreed and once that happens there will be no chance of an exit in this window.

Ideally, Cunha’s new deal will be announced soon and the focus can then solely be on what he’s doing on the pitch.
