Stephano Carrillo to Wolves transfer links, player profile, where he fits and fee

Wolves have reportedly added 17-year-old Mexican forward Stephano Carrillo to their transfer lists following his U17 World Cup displays.

Wolves dipped their toe into the South American youth market during the summer, acquiring the impressive Enso Gonzalez from Paraguay. Clearly happy with their signing, they are now lining up a move for a very talented North American youngster.

Under-17 Mexico international Stephano Carrillo has reportedly caught the eye of Wolves, along with Newcastle, Feyenoord and Copenhagen who have all enquired to Santos Laguna over his availability.

This comes according to Fox Sports Mexico journalist Yeudiel Pacheco, who added the starlet’s U17 World Cup performances are what impressed across Europe.

But who is the 17-year-old wonderkid?

Who is Stephano Carrillo?

At just 17, already Carrillo has shown himself to be an incredible talent for club and country. Last season for Mexico’s U17s, Carrillo played a key role in Mexico’s CONCACAF U17 championship win, as he won the Golden Boot scoring eight goals according to Transfermarkt.

He continued this form at the U17 World Cup this month with three goals and an assist in just four games for Mexico.

Carrillo stands at 6ft 1in tall and is powerful for his age, clearly tailor-made for the physicality of English football. Wolves are no stranger to Mexican strikers with Raul Jimenez still fresh in the memory.

Where does he fit in at Wolves?

Wolves are in need of a striker and have been linked with trying to sign one in January, and while Carrillo does hold a lot of positives, he isn’t ready to be a starter.

He would probably join the Wolves academy initially with the view to impressing Gary O’Neil enough that he earns a call-up.

If he comes to Wolves he will be trained and utilised in the youth teams as a number nine, and given the other sides interested, Wolves should move quickly to secure his signature.

How much could Carrillo cost?

Carrillo joined up with Santos Laguna’s U18s earlier in 2023, and despite his clearly high potential, a nominal fee would probably do the trick.

BeSoccer has his market value at just £4.3k however we imagine this was before interest skyrocketed after his standout displays in the World Cup.

That being said, there is little chance he costs more than £500k and would be a player signed with the distant future in mind.
