Sporting CP want Ruben Vinagre, according to reports in Portugal

According to Correio de Manha, the Primeira Liga champions are keen to land the Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back this summer.

Vinagre spent the first-half of the 2020/21 season on loan at Olympiacos. A lack of game time saw Wolves then send him to Farmalicao.

Vinagre’s spell with Farmalicao was much more productive, with the player making 20 appearances.

Wolves will now need to take a decision on the player.

At the moment, Jonny Castro Otto will miss the start of the 2021/22 season with a knee injury.

And it remains to be seen if Rayan Ait-Nouri will be signed permanently. It feels there is a reasonable chance of the club doing that.

Correio de Manha say Nuno Mendes is likely to leave Sporting this summer, and Vinagre is their preferred replacement.

They explain a loan offer with option to buy could be presented.

There is no word on what that option to buy could be, but it was reported back in April that Wolves value Vinagre at around £13 million.

Wolves should sanction Vinagre exit

Wolves should probably allow Vinagre to leave Molineux.

Ideally they should sell though, as an initial loan doesn’t really help their cause.

Ait-Nouri put in some impressive displays towards the end of the season.

The young Frenchman – who earns £30,000-a-week (Spotrac) – is probably a slight upgrade, and between him and Fernando Marcal, there is decent cover in the absence of Jonny.
