Fer Lopez has not been given a chance to showcase himself in a Wolves shirt, and that has led to speculation of the attacking midfielder heading out on loan.
The Spanish midfielder is reportedly in advanced talks with former club Celta Vigo. And that could end up being an 18-month loan move.
With English sources backing that up, saying Wolves are likely to send him out on loan to Spain.
It seems like quite an odd decision, considering the Old Gold do need the creative spark that a player like Fer Lopez can offer, and amid an injury crisis to members of the squad in his position.
However, the Spanish press now seem quite confident about Lopez’s chances of returning to his home club, as they have read into his latest social media post.

Fer Lopez’s Instagram post has Spanish press convinced about his future

With the New Year now ushered in, social media has been flooded with footballers looking back on their 2025 year.
Fer Lopez was no different, as he shared various snaps of his career over the previous calendar month.
However, his choice of photo and music has led to an interesting theory from Spain.
The landing image of the post saw the midfielder in the strip of Celta Vigo, his hometown club, with his song choice being titled ‘Homecoming’.
It did not take long for the Spanish press to pick up on it, as the outlet AS states, “Through social media, Fer Lopez has more than just hinted that his return to Vigo is a matter of days.
“The Wolverhampton attacking midfielder saw out 2025 by sharing a picture of himself on Instagram wearing his hometown team’s jersey and accompanied by Kanye West’s song ‘Homecoming’.
“The post doesn’t leave much room for interpretation. The return of the academy graduate will be the icing on the cake for the squad that Giráldez has been missing since the summer.”
What do you make of Fer Lopez’s Instagram post?
Has he hinted at his future, or are we looking too much into it?
Wolves bought Lopez for £19 million, and with concrete links tipping him to already leave the club, it showcases just how badly run the Old Gold were under Jeff Shi.
And to make matters worse, Wolves may have missed out on a key target who could replace Lopez.
Nathan Shi cannot make same transfer mistakes at Wolves
If Nathan Shi wants to take the executive club chairman role on a full-time basis and have fans fully behind him, deals akin to Fer Lopez’s must not be made.
As it stands, it is not clear as to why Wolves even sanctioned such a transfer with the player coming in at a costly price but not yet being given a chance.
The summer signing has played just 348 minutes across all competitions with just four starts from 11 appearances.
Lopez may be talented, but it seems those qualities will have to be seen from afar, as he looks set to leave the Molineux club, with Celta Vigo making it quite clear they want Fer Lopez to return.
