Some fans may reluctantly agree with Troy Deeney’s emphatic view about Wolves

Troy Deeney has shared an emphatic view about Wolves that some fans will reluctantly share after the defeat to Burnley.

On Sunday, Wolves suffered their worst defeat yet in the Premier League.

Vitor Pereira had described the game with Burnley as must-win, but Wanderers came up short, losing 3-2 at Molineux. Lyle Foster scored right at the death to break hearts, and also infuriate supporters.

There were unsavoury scenes after the full-time whistle as fans in the South Bank let rip at Vitor Pereira and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The frustrations are totally understandable, with Wolves sitting rock-bottom of the Premier League having turned in too many abject performances this season. Wolves have also now lost to all three newly promoted clubs, which is unacceptable.

Wolves are in deep trouble, and for Troy Deeney the club’s fate this season is already clear.

Troy Deeney thinks Burnley defeat all but relegates Wolves

Seasons are obviously not defined by October.

There is still plenty of time for Wolves to get themselves out of this absolute mess they find themselves in.

But the big issue this time around is that the squad is severely lacking both quality and leadership. So making a managerial change may not be enough to save Wolves.

It’s an awful situation that is mainly the doing of Fosun, although Pereira is far from blameless.

For former Premier League striker Troy Deeney, despite clubs having only played nine games, this defeat against Burnley surely points to eventual relegation for Wolves.

As he praised Burnley defender Quilindschy Hartman in his Team of the Week piece for BBC Sport, he said: “Two assists on the day in a huge game for Burnley who came away with a monstrous win at Wolves. In my opinion that all but relegates Wolves now.

“Two assists was fantastic in a week that has been dominated by dodgy decisions and unbelievable results. I think Burnley have got the result of the weekend.”

Relegation currently looking inevitable for Wolves

This is a bold view from Deeney given it’s still early in the season, but one that a lot of fans will reluctantly share. Because there are so many reasons why relegation looks inevitable at the moment for Wolves.

The team is still conceding too many goals, not showing enough cutting edge and not being creative enough, and there appears to be no real team identity.

Pereira has chopped and changed in the hope of stumbling on a successful formula but is still yet to find it. And the manager is making so many questionable calls as he goes on. For one, the lack of minutes for Fer Lopez amid the creativity issue is astounding.

Wolves’ squad is also weaker than it was last season, and now has no game-changers or natural leaders.

The new signings are all gambles who did not previously have any experience of the Premier League. While it is not essential to sign such players, Wolves surely needed to add a few this time around given so many were leaving.

And lastly, the newly promoted clubs all have something about them and have recruited well and are attacking the season ambitiously.

Make no mistake about it, Wolves are in serious trouble.
