Sky Sports journalist shares Wolves transfer twist as rival bid ‘rejected’ for Gary O’Neil target

Wolves must act fast if they are to capitalise on the latest Premier League transfer news regarding one key target.

Gary O’Neil has a job on his hands to get his Wolves squad up to scratch before deadline day on Friday.

The Old Gold must find replacements for both Max Kilman and Pedro Neto, with plenty to be done on the transfer front before time runs out.

The clock is ticking however, Wolves could have just been handed a boost in their pursuit of one player that could significantly bolster O’Neil’s attack.

Nottingham Forest have bid rejected for Wolves target Yoane Wissa

Wolves are interested in Yoane Wissa, who is generating a lot of interest due to his impressive form at Brentford.

The Bees signed the forward for just £8.5m in 2021 although, his price tag is expected to be far higher this summer.

Such was confirmed on Tuesday as Nottingham Forest had a bid rejected by Brentford, with a fee of around £15m not deemed to be high enough to pry the 27-year-old away from his club.

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas provided an update on Forest’s failed attempt at signing Wissa, which will come as a relief to those at Wolves.

Added to his update on Forest’s rejection, Thomas confirmed that Wolves are ‘also monitoring’ the versatile winger’s situation ahead of deadline day.

Wolves must act on Forest’s failed attempt at signing Wissa

As seen against Chelsea on Sunday, Wolves are in dire need of a replacement for Neto, with more firepower in the final third a must for O’Neil before time runs out.

In Wissa, the Old Gold could capture a Premier League-proven forward, capable of producing spellbinding moments in the wide areas.

From his opening two games this season, Wissa has contributed to two goals, scoring once and assisting once to pick up where he left off last term.

Having netted 12 Premier League goals over the 2023/24 campaign, the Congolese ace eclipsed Neto’s scoring record in his entire Premier League career, telling of what the Brentford man could add to O’Neil’s wilted front line.

With Forest keen to acquire the 27-year-old, Matt Hobbs must now up his pursuit of the forward, with Brentford’s asking price now made clearer.
