Saudi club have now ‘shown interest’ in £60k-a-week Wolves star who featured in Arsenal defeat

Saudi club Al-Shabab are reportedly now showing interest in a Wolves player who featured in the club’s opening Premier League game against Arsenal.

Wanderers got off to a losing start on Saturday against the Gunners.

Gary O’Neil‘s side lost 2-0, but put in a decent display down in north London.

Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka got the goals for the hosts, but Wolves had good chance to score through Jorgen Strand Larsen and Matheus Cunha.

The cutting edge sadly wasn’t there in the crucial moments. But O’Neil was enthused by the performance after the game, as were a lot of supporters.

Attention will now turn to the transfer market, and there is a chance we could be seeing some movement before the next game with Chelsea.

And one man who could be leaving, is Daniel Podence.

A lot of Wolves fans are very surprised that Podence remains a Wolves player at this point.

The narrative had long been that the player was keen to leave the club, with Olympiacos the club with the strongest links.

Podence, of course, spent last season on loan with the Greek giants.

People were even more surprised to see Podence actually feature against Arsenal on Saturday. He came in for the closing stages, replacing Rodrigo Gomes.

But doubts remain over his future, and now, journalist Gianluigi Longari has made a fresh claim about the £60,000-a-week man.

He wrote on X last night: “Al-Shabab Club has shown interest in Wolverhampton WFC footballer Daniel #Podence.”

Podence was previously thought to be closing in on a move to Olympiacos. But it seems there are still other potential destinations for the 28-year-old.

O’Neil must make final plea to keep Podence

So Podence now has interest from Al-Shabab, but O’Neil should try to make one final plea to keep the player.

The manager has openly said that he wants to work with Podence this season, but it has seemed as though the player is still looking for a move away.

He has made some big contributions over the years for Wolves and it would be a shame to see him go. Clearly, he still has plenty to offer.

O’Neil should make a last-ditch attempt to get him to stay, especially following the sale of Pedro Neto.

If there is no chance though and Podence does want a new challenge, then it is at least good for Wolves that more than one club are in the mix. This will, in theory, help Wolves to secure a bigger fee for the player.
