He has been linked with the club for a long time now.

And it seems this summer could finally be the time he pitches up at Molineux. Wolves are thought to have been in talks with Sporting, and last week it was claimed the club were ready to submit an opening bid.

Palhinha is a player who has really caught the eye in the last couple of years for Sporting.

He’s made big contributions in helping the club to win the league title in 2020/21, and then come runners-up in the season just gone.

Potentially, he’ll be coming in as a replacement for Neves this summer.

Neves has been with Wolves for five years now, and has a number of teams interested in him this summer. Wanderers are realistic about the situation, but will try to bank a huge fee for him. It has been reported that Wolves value Neves at £70 million.

Neves could well depart, but he rates his potential replacement Palhinha.

Ahead of Portugal’s game with Switzerland, he said (Desporto): “Palhinha is an excellent player, that’s why he is called up to the national team as well. It is up to the manager to make his decisions and see who has the best characteristics for a given game.”

Palhinha was an unused substitute last night as Portugal crashed to a 1-0 defeat.

Haris Seferovic scored the game’s only goal in the first minute, which was the fastest in the competition’s history.

Wolves must wrap up Joao Palhinha deal, as Neves showers praise on his compatriot

So that’s Ivan Cavaleiro and Neves now acknowledging the quality of Palhinha.

Wolves need to ensure they get this deal wrapped up soon, before other clubs get involved.

He’s someone the club have followed for a long time and is clearly a player they believe in.

Ideally, Wolves will get the deal done before selling Neves. Selling Neves first would potentially make Palhinha more expensive, with Sporting knowing Wolves had just made a big sale.
