Rodrigo Gomes has emerged as one of the few bright points in Wolves’ difficult season, and his progress appears to be attracting attention from elsewhere.
It’s been a season to forget for the Old Gold and one that will likely end in relegation, barring a miracle.
But Rodrigo Gomes can hold his head fairly high, having put in some impactful performances this term.
His direct running and willingness to take defenders on has given Wolves an outlet when matches have become stretched.
Now, the winger’s performances have begun to attract interest from other clubs, creating a situation Wolves must manage carefully if they want to keep one of their most promising young attackers.
Liam Keen says interest is building in Rodrigo Gomes
When young players begin to influence games in the Premier League, attention follows quickly. And Rodrigo’s progress has already placed him on the radar of other clubs.
Keen was speaking about a number of Wolves players on the latest E&S podcast, and said that interest is already building, with conversations even starting with representatives.
He said: “For me, one of the ones you build the squad around, if you can keep him, I think you have to try and keep him. You have to get in there and say ‘give us a year’.

“If Rob plays a back four, which I’m guessing he probably will do next season then Rodrigo has to be one of the attackers, not a full-back. And I think he does really well in the Championship if you keep him.
“However, there are clubs already in the Premier League and elsewhere who are starting to have a look at him, and starting to have a few conversations with a few representatives, if you will.”
For Wolves, that interest creates an immediate challenge. Rodrigo has become one of the few players whose development offers a clear positive during a difficult campaign.
If his progress continues, Wolves will face increasing competition to keep him. The club must now decide how strongly it intends to protect one of its most promising attacking players.
Wolves face a challenge to keep Rodrigo
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Rodrigo – who cost £12.7 million (BBC Sport) this summer.
As one of the most popular players at the club, a lot of supporters will not want to see the back of him in the next window.
He has the potential to really thrive in the Championship, and as Keen says, perhaps he’s a player Wolves should be building around.

But there’s no doubt he has qualities that make him desirable to other clubs.
His work-rate for one is something that really sets him apart, and this season we’ve seen him chip in with five goals across all competitions despite minimal game time.
If there are clubs coming in for him, then Wolves need to make sure they demand a high fee, for a player with big potential.
