Whether they like it or not, Wolves are right in the middle of a relegation battle and run the risk of being demoted to the Championship.
Set for a frantic end to the transfer window, Wolves are expected to be one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs.
The Old Gold could bid farewell to Mario Lemina, who is in talks to join Torino. Vitor Pereira is already trying to sign a new defender, but Lemina’s departure would leave the Wolves manager needing even more additions.
Manu Silva came close to signing for Wolves before he agreed to join Benfica. This has forced Wolves’ owners back to the drawing board, and despite identifying Besiktas’ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a realistic option, they could be left disappointed again.

Wolves warned Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could join rivals
After starting just two league games this season and now facing an uncertain future, Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a transfer target for Wolves, Leeds and Leicester City.
However, according to CaughtOffside, it is the latter who have the best chance of bringing the 31-year-old back to England due to the manager’s connections.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now in charge of Besiktas and former Manchester United teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy overseeing Leicester City, the pair’s relationship could be the deciding factor in where Oxlade-Chamberlain goes.
There remains some uncertainty over the type of transfer the midfielder could make, but it seems a loan with an obligation to buy is the likeliest.
New signings key to relegation battle
While Championship table-toppers Leeds United are in a great position to win promotion back to the Premier League, Wolves and Leicester City’s top-flight status put them in a better position when it comes to securing new signings.
Both sides are embroiled in a tough relegation battle, though. Leicester City’s 2-1 win against Tottenham last weekend saw them leapfrog Wolves, who lost 1-0 against Arsenal, and gave the Foxes a narrow edge in the race for survival.

While Oxlade-Chamberlain’s next move remains undecided, one thing is for sure — with so much at stake during the second half of the season, Wolves fans won’t want to see Pereira miss out on a player, and certainly not one who goes on to strengthen a direct relegation rival.
