Wolves were linked with a move for Riqui Puig earlier this summer – but the star is now set to make a shock move to the MLS.
According to AS, the player has reached a verbal agreement to join La Galaxy.
Puig is one of a host of players Barca are trying to offload this summer.
Last term he made just 17 appearances for the club, and he is not in the plans of Xavi moving forwards.
Time is of the essence for Galaxy and Barca, because the deadline to register players for the MLS is August 4.
The expectation is that the move will be completed. Fabrizio Romano says Barca are looking to secure a sell-on clause.
It is a really surprising move. Puig is a player that was previously seen as a potential superstar at the Nou Camp.
He hasn’t been able to live up to hype, but the feeling was that could still do a good job for a team in Europe.
Wolves were linked with a move for Puig a couple of months ago, with SPORT reporting that he was one of three players Barca were considering offering as makeweight in a potential deal for Ruben Neves.
But it seems Puig, who has an £84 million release clause in his contract (via Squawka), is about to make a move that would suggest he was never really an option for Wolves.
Riqui Puig moving to the MLS is a real surprise following Wolves transfer links
Not so long ago, there was a lot of clamour for Wolves to sign Puig.
It was felt by many that the club should be all over a talented young player who badly needed a fresh start.
It is very surprising to see that he is heading to the MLS.
The 23-year-old appears to have lost his way and seemingly believes the MLS could be what he needs to get back on track.
Perhaps he sees it as a chance to build momentum and eventually return to Europe.
