Report: Wolves want to sign FC Porto full-back Tomas Esteves

Wolves are keen to sign FC Porto right-back Tomas Esteves according to reports in Portugal.

A Bola have claimed the Black Country club are looking to prise another player from the 2019/20 Liga NOS champions following the arrival of Fabio Silva, and reportedly pending arrival of Vitor Ferreira aka ‘Vitinha’ at Molineux.

Esteves is apparently under serious consideration by Molineux officials to fill the void left by Matt Doherty, who joined Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Esteves made three appearances for the Porto first-team last term, and is another highly regarded youngster at the club after coming through the youth ranks.

Porto only recently handed him the no.2 shirt, which perhaps suggests the plan they had for him in 2020/21.

Mais Futebol journalist Nuno Travassos said of Esteves last year (Guardian): “He was a member of the team that won the Uefa Youth League last season and is a player that has a seemingly inexhaustible energy.

“His technical ability is superb and he is also tactically intelligent and a modern right-back in the way that he can stay wide but also go inside to find space if needed.

Esteves could be Wolves gamble worth taking

Esteves would undoubtedly be a gamble by Wolves but, by all accounts, he is a player with huge potential.

He got capped at U21 level for Portugal at the age of 17, which is a clear sign of maturity.

And the youngster has already been linked with a move to Valencia this summer (via Football Espana) which further suggests there is confidence the player is ready to step up from the Portuguese top-flight.
