There is some encouraging news for Wolverhampton Wanderers fans who are hoping the club add a striker to their ranks this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Wolves are favourites to sign Barnsley loanee Daryl Dike.

Dike, a USA international, has been on loan at the Championship side from Orlando City. He has been a revelation since arriving in January, scoring nine goals in 19 league games and helping the Tykes achieve a play-off spot.

However, following their elimination to Swansea City in the semi-finals, it is unlikely Barnsley will be able to afford the optional clause of £18 million in his loan deal.

That has led to the report from TEAMtalk, saying that Wolves lead an eight-team race for his signature and at least half of the Premier League teams, including Manchester City and Chelsea, have expressed an interest.

Would Dike be an improvement on what Wolves have?

Some fans may be wishing for additions in other areas of the pitch, especially with Raul Jimenez set to play a ‘full role’ in the team’s plans for next season.

Although it looks like the club will not sign Willian Jose permanently, Jeff Shi has spoken of his adoration for Fabio Silva, saying that no 18-year-old is performing at the level the teenager is.

Yet Dike would likely offer a more physical presence for Wolves in the opposition’s box, something they have been desperately lacking over the past year.
