Wolves officials are reportedly yet to make a decision about striker Raul Jimenez, with the January transfer window approaching.
This week there have been claims that new manager Julen Lopetegui has given the green light for Jimenez to leave next month.
The suggestions came following a tough start to the 2022/23 season for Jimenez, who been limited to just four appearances for the club.
The 31-year-old has really struggled with a groin injury, and has not featured for Wolves since the end of August.
He battled hard to be fit for the World Cup, and did make it into Mexico’s final squad.
But he would make just three cameo appearances in Qatar.
Mexico did not make it out of their group, and now Jimenez is back with his Wolves teammates in Marbella, where the squad are undertaking warm weather training.
But the Express & Star say that these claims are ‘wide of the mark’. A decision has not yet been taken on the player.
The Spaniard is keen to work with Jimenez over the next few weeks as he assesses all his options.
There has been some speculation that Jimenez may himself want to leave in January. Supposedly, he has interest from some MLS clubs, as well as his former employers Club America.
December will be a very interesting month for Raul Jimenez at Wolves
It is going to be really intriguing to see the level of involvement Jimenez has for Wolves this month.
Wanderers are playing two friendly matches out in Marbella against Empoli and Cadiz.
The players then return ahead of facing Gillingham in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Wanderers finish off the year with Premier League games against Everton and Manchester United.
Seemingly, Jimenez is close to being fully fit. So it will just be a case of whether Lopetegui actually selects him for these upcoming games.
If he doesn’t feature all that much, it could be that an exit is on the cards. And, at the moment, it’s hard to argue against that being the best move for all parties.
