Report: What Julen Lopetegui did when Nathan Collins and Hugo Bueno misplaced passes vs Arsenal

Julen Lopetegui was in the stands at Molineux to watch Wolves take on Arsenal.

The new head coach was present for Wolves’ final game before the suspension of the season for the World Cup.

A new era officially begins today, with the Spaniard taking over from Bruno Lage, who was sacked at the start of October.

Lopetegui has a lot of work to do in the coming weeks, as he seeks to guide the club off the bottom of the Premier League table and towards safety.

Fans are optimistic he can do that given his pedigree.

But it will not be easy, and he needs every single person to buy into what he tries to do.

So far, Lopetegui has given a really good impression.

Wolves filmed his first day at Compton, and then all eyes were obviously on him at Molineux at Saturday.

The Athletic have brought a report this morning about him, having watched him closely during the game against Arsenal.

At one point, Lopetegui saw Nathan Collin misplace a pass. ‘There was a craning of the neck for an animated conversation with all of his coaching staff after Nathan Collins’ misplaced pass allowed an Arsenal counter-attack that forced Toti into a saving header’, the article reads.

Lopetegui then also saw Bueno lose possession, with The Athletic adding ‘he rocked back and folded his arms as Bueno overhit a pass. Animated discussions followed immediately with his coaches as mental notes were made about conversations that need to be had in the weeks ahead’.

Wolves have been quite sloppy on the ball this season.

You can the players have been trying to play ‘the right way’. But the execution has not always been there, and that is cause for frustration for the crowd.

Lopetegui is known for overseeing a brand of football that is easy on the eye, yet efficient.

One thing Wolves seriously need going forward is to become more efficient, and ruthless in the final third.

One would suspect the coming weeks will be heavily focused on breeding patterns of play that will get Wolves into the final third quickly.
