For many Wolves fans, Renato Sanches is a sensitive subject.
During the closing stages of the 2021 summer transfer window, Wanderers attempted to land the midfield maestro on loan from Lille.
Reports of the club’s move surfaced the evening before transfer deadline day.
Many supporters went to bed feeling exciting and optimistic about what the next day would bring.
But ultimately, it was disappointment rather than euphoria.
Wolves had talks, but ultimately decided against signing the Sanches, who was sidelined with a knee injury at the time.
The club deemed it too prohibitive and walked away from the deal.
Many had hoped Wolves would go back in for the star. January rolled around and there was no mention Wolves reigniting their interest.
And now, it seems as though Wolves’ hopes of signing the player at long last are well and truly over.
According to various sources, Sanches wants to move to the Parc des Princes (Le Parisien) is set to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
And the club are set to sign him extremely cheap.
They have presented a bid to Lille of £8.5 million, but they are looking to receive a sum closer to £13 million (via The Sun).
Sanches has just one year left on his contract now, which is why his valuation is so low.
PSG signing Renato Sanches so cheap will leave a bitter taste for many Wolves fans
For many Wolves supporters, Sanches is the player who could make the biggest difference to the team of all the club’s targets in recent years.
He’s a brilliant box-to-box midfielder who carries the ball forwards and into threatening positions.
Currently, Wolves have no one who can do that.
The club were close to getting him in 2021, but decided to opt against it at the eleventh hour.
And now, it seems as though he will finally move on from Lille and it looks as though Wolves have missed their chance.
The fact he is going so cheap as well will certainly not any Wolves fans feel better.
