Report claims Nikola Milenkovic remains an active target for Wolves

Wolves are reportedly still interested in signing previous transfer target Nikola Milenkovic.

The Athletic have reported this morning that the club are set on signing a new centre-back in January.

It will be a tough time for Bruno Lage.

Willy Boly and Romain Saiss will both head off to AFCON. And Yerson Mosquera will potentially still be recovering from his hamstring injury.

Lage will only have Conor Coady, Max Kilman and Leander Dendoncker at his disposal unless Fosun invest.

Sven Botman is perhaps the name that is mentioned the most when it comes to Wolves centre-back targets.

Duje Caleta-Car of Marseille is also a possibility.

But The Athletic say that Serbia international Milenkovic remains an active target for the club.

That is despite the player having only signed a new deal with Fiorentina back in August. He is now due to stay at the club until 2023.

Wolves supposedly had interest in the 24-year-old according to Sky Sports, who claimed discussions had taken place.

Apparently the club had reservations about the finances involved.

It seems the club could still make a move for the star in January.

How has reported Wolves target Milenkovic fared so far this season?

Milenkovic has been a regular for Fiorentina so far this term, making 11 league appearances and one in the Italy Cup.

He has been a part of four clean sheets for the club, and scored in the very first game against Joe Mourinho’s AS Roma.

There was disappointment for the player just before the international break though, when he picked up a red card against Juventus in a 1-0 defeat.

But he was part of the Serbia side that just beat Portugal to reach the World Cup finals in Qatar, which he will likely still be on cloud nine about.

The star has been fairly impressive for Fiorentina, winning 3 aerial duels per 90 and making 3.1 clearances per 90 according to WhoScored. He’s also been great with the ball, completing 90% of his passes in Serie A.
