Raul Jimenez suggests he could yet stay at Wolves

Raul Jimenez has suggested he could yet stay at Wolves, despite a frustrating past season.

The striker really struggled throughout 2022/23, with injury problems restricting him to just 20 appearances across all competitions.

The narrative around Jimenez has been that he is likely to leave.

He was left out of several matchday squads towards the end of last season by Julen Lopetegui.

And since the end of the campaign, there have been reports that he wants to depart.

But the player has now given a new interview, and suggested he could yet stay at Wolves for another season.

And the Mexico international has not ruled out staying at Molineux for the final year of his contract.

He said (via Kery News): “It could have been my last game there (at Molineux). Of course not, because I still have a year left on my contract. They feel like continuing. People appreciate you and know what you have given for the club.

“Now whether it’s at Wolves or not, I’m happy, I want to show that I can continue to do so in the best league in the world.”

Raul Jimenez won’t fetch much this summer and should be considered as an option by Wolves

It would not make a great deal of sense for Wolves to sell Raul Jimenez this summer.

Given the season he just had, his injury problems and the fact he only has a year left on his contract, he likely wouldn’t bring in that much cash.

So there could actually be more value in it for Wolves to just keep him for the last year of his contract, before he walks away for free.

Jimenez may not be the same player as a few years ago.

But he could still perhaps play a part for Wolves. Maybe he could be a second or third-choice striker at the club, like Diego Costa was before he ended up playing a key role for Wolves in the last two months of 2022/23.

But Jimenez would obviously have to be content with that, which is another question.

The £30 million star may be open to staying at Wolves. But he surely wouldn’t be happy if he was playing at the same rate he was last season.

It will certainly be very interesting to see what happens with him.

Jimenez is one of the highest earners at the club, so Wolves officials might endeavor to get him off the books.
