Rangers make loan bid with £10m obligation clause for ‘scary’ Wolves target

Wolves remain in the market for new players, but face competition from Rangers for one target.

Wolves have now signed two players this summer, after confirming the arrival of Jhon Arias from Fluminense.

It may well have been two new signings this week for Wolves, but Atletico Madrid hijacked the move for Marc Pubill, much to the frustration of fans and probably Vitor Pereira too.

The work continues for the leadership team to secure targets of the manager.

There is now just under a month to go until the new Premier League season starts, and Wolves ideally don’t want to be scrambling for players.

Although, the way the summer has gone so far, it’d be no surprise if Wolves had a busy deadline day this year.

Last week, it was reported that Wolves were showing interest in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, the Crystal Palace youngster who spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

It was suggested that Wolves were considering the 22-year-old as a replacement for Matheus Cunha.

But if Wolves want to make an approach, they had best get a move on.

Because journalist David Ornstein has now reported that Rangers have presented a loan bid, which includes a £10 million obligation to buy Rak-Sakyi.

Ornstein says this bid was rejected by Palace though.

So either Palace aren’t keen on loaning Rak-Sakyi initially, or the £10 million obligation was too low.

It is stated that Rangers’ pursuit of the player ‘remains ongoing’, suggesting they will return with another offer.

Rak-Sakyi ‘unsettled’ at Crystal Palace

It remains to be seen if Wolves will look to get involved here, and fight Rangers for the talented London-born forward.

But Rak-Sakyi’s exit from Palace has a reasonable chance to happen, as he is apparently unsettled.

Rak-Sakyi had a disappointing season in 2023/24. He wasn’t loaned out and was then overlooked for selection and also suffered with injuries.

He has two years left on his contract and Palace ideally don’t want him entering into the final year of his contract, which is why he could be offloaded in this window.

It’s perhaps one to keep an eye on, because Rak-Sakyi is a player with attributes to become a great player.

Mark Bright, Palace’s director of U21 development, said in a video on the Crystal Palace YouTube channel earlier this year ‘his ability is scary’, so it would probably be no surprise if Palace were looking for a better offer.
