Rangers and Nicolas Raskin make surprise deadline day decision amid Wolves interest

Wolves have not been up to much so far on transfer deadline day, with fans growing frustrated.

Wolves are in the market for late additions, but it is looking like Tolu Arokodare is the only nailed-on signing.

The Nigerian striker flew in yesterday to finalise his move, and Arokodare has bid farewell to Genk on social media this afternoon. An official announcement will arrive shortly.

Vitor Pereira also wants a new midfielder.

Wolves have had an interest in Hayden Hackney, but Middlesbrough are standing firm.

And Josh Brownhill is also a target for Wolves, but there is interest from others.

And then there is Nicolas Raskin, who is in an interesting situation at the moment after he was left out at the weekend by Russell Martin – and now an update has just been offered.

Earlier today, it was claimed Copenhagen were trying to convince Raskin to join them.

But now, it seems like he may not actually be going anywhere, in what is a surprise development. It is surprising, because local Scottish journalists had suggested this morning that there was ‘no way back’ for Raskin at Ibrox.

The consensus seemed to be that he would move on.

The Rangers Review have reported that Raskin is now set for clear-the-air talks with Martin, who had left him out against Celtic at the weekend.

The Rangers Review ‘understands he will be part of Martin’s squad that will return to action after the international break’.

Interestingly, they also say that it’s understood Raskin ‘has never considered leaving Rangers despite speculation surrounding his future in recent days’ and that ‘he remains committed to Rangers’.

Wolves simply must sign a new midfielder

This points to Wolves having pretty much no chance of signing Raskin.

The deal would have been tricky to do anyway with Wolves needing to free up another non-homegrown player spot in order to make something happen.

We will now see if there is a push for Hackney, despite Middlesbrough’s strong stance.

Or perhaps Brownhill will be Wolves’ choice. He could be signed past the deadline due to his free agent status.

But it’s paramount someone is brought in, or else Pereira will not be happy.
