Premier League defender reaches ‘total verbal agreement’ with another club after Wolves approach

Wolves are reportedly in the market for another defender after signing Emmanuel Agbadou.

Wolves made their first signing of the January window in Agbadou earlier this week, and the Ivorian made his debut against Bristol City in the FA Cup.

But Wolves want to hand Pereira two defensive recruits this month, and a number of players are being looked at.

Kevin Danso was thought to be Wolves main target at the start of the window, but he reportedly declined a move to Molineux.

Another player Wolves have been interested in is Renato Veiga of Chelsea. The Portuguese has struggled for minutes at Stamford Bridge since his move there from Basel in the summer.

But recently, it was claimed Chelsea had turned down an approach for Veiga from Wolves – but Veiga looks as though he’ll still be changing clubs this month.

It has now been reported by top German journalist Florian Plettenberg that, after Wolves failed with an approach, Veiga is now set to join Borussia Dortmund.

He writes on X: “Borussia Dortmund have reached a total verbal agreement with Renato #Veiga

“Dortmund now pushing to sign the 21 y/o left-back from Chelsea. #CFC Veiga, keen on the move to #BVB. Dortmund now trying to find an agreement with Chelsea about a loan deal with an option to buy.”

It remains to be seen if Dortmund can present a suitable proposal for the player.

Wolves must sign defender on top of Agbadou

So Wolves now look highly unlikely to sign Veiga this month, and it will be intriguing to see if that move to Dortmund happens.

When a young player joins Dortmund, there is almost an expectation these days that they will succeed and turn into a real household name.

Veiga hasn’t had much game time at Chelsea, and will hope to become a regular in the Dortmund team.

Hopefully, Wolves will not regret missing out on him.

It’s a slight blow for the Wolves hierarchy that Veiga won’t be signing, but officials must endeavor to hand Pereira a second defender after Agbadou.

Agbadou looks like he could be a good signing, but Wolves are still a little short at centre-back, especially given the fitness struggles of Craig Dawson.
