Premier League club will make Matheus Cunha club record signing but only on one condition

The summer transfer window is one of the most exciting times to be a football fan, but that might not be the case for Wolves supporters this year.

Wolves are set for a busy summer. Vitor Pereira will have several important transfer decisions, including deciding if Wolves should replace Jose Sa.

There are also multiple Wolves players soon to become free agents, but irrespective of which players end up staying at Molineux, striker Matheus Cunha is set to dominate headlines between now and the start of next season.

Cunha is wanted by all the top clubs with one preparing to make their move, but only on one condition.

Champions League qualification key to Matheus Cunha offer

Cunha’s 15 goals this season have unsurprisingly seen him rocket to the top of summer shortlists.

Despite some speculation he could leave in January, the South American penned a new deal containing a £62.5 million release clause.

Although Arsenal have some concerns over Cunha’s temperament following the striker’s second red card of the season against Bournemouth last month, Nottingham Forest remain keen on signing him.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tricky Trees are having their best season in a long time. The side sit third in the table and, after beating Manchester City last time out, are genuine contenders to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

And according to talkSPORT, should Forest throw a cat among the pigeons and finish inside England’s top four, they will launch a bid for Cunha.

Should Evangelos Marinakis activate the Brazilian’s release clause, Wolves will be powerless to stop negotiations.

Would be a club record

Elliott Anderson, who joined from Newcastle United last summer for £35 million, is currently Nottingham Forest’ most expensive signing.

Cunha, if he ended up at the City Ground, would take that crown and become the side’s record signing — by quite some distance too.

While it is hard to begrudge Cunha a move to a club competing on Europe’s biggest stage, the possibility of losing such a talented and game-changing player is one Wolves will struggle to deal with.

It doesn’t bear thinking about where the Old Gold would be this season had they not had Cunha’s contributions to rely on.
