Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Sergio Gomez – which could be good news for Wolves regarding their hopes of keeping Rayan Ait-Nouri.
According to The Athletic, the Citizens are now in talks with the Belgian club over a deal for the 21-year-old.
It is stated that the club have scouted him ‘extensively’.
The Premier League champions had been trying to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton.
But the Seagulls were sticking to their valuation of £50 million, which saw City cool their interest.
Chelsea are now in advanced talks for Cucurella, and are expected to sign him.
It had been suggested that Rayan Ait-Nouri was a player on City’s radar as an alternative to Cucurella.
But it seems Wolves may not have to worry about an approach from Pep Guardiola after all.
They are apparently now looking to sign Gomez, whom they view as a high-potential development talent.
Gomez, a Spain U21 international, would cost far less than Cucurella, and he would seemingly be a back up for Joao Cancelo.
Good news for Wolves following Manchester City’s links to Rayan Ait-Nouri as they shift focus to Sergio Gomez
It’s good news that City are now in talks to sign Gomez.
You would think that would mean no chance of them making an approach to sign Ait-Nouri, since Gomez is a similar profile.
Wolves losing Ait-Nouri – who cost Wolves £10 million – would be disastrous but thankfully it does not seem like the club would entertain any interest anyway, according to the Express.
He is an amazing young talent, who could dazzle this season having looked brilliant over the past few weeks.
