Wolves’ hopes of signing Georges Mikautadze may still be alive, after Metz rejected an offer from Burnley for the striker.

Wanderers are thought to be in the market for a new number nine this summer.

Diego Costa has already left the club.

And it is very possible that Fabio Silva and Raul Jimenez will also both be departing.

Julen Lopetegui would still have Sasa Kalajdzic and Matheus Cunha as options.

But there would be scope for signing a younger striker – especially if Silva left.

Mikautadze has been linked – and it looks like Wolves may have just received a boost if they had plans to move for him.

Metz reject Burnley offer for Wolves target Georges Mikautadze – they want £17 million

According to L’Equipe, Metz – who will play in Ligue 1 in 2023/24 after gaining promotion – have turned down an offer of £13 million.

They actually don’t say who that bid was from.

But journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that it came from Burnley.

Vincent Kompany is seeking to bolster his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League, and Mikautadze is seemingly someone they feel can help.

He got 23 goals last season, and was named Ligue 2 Player of the Season.

Wolves were recently linked with a move for the 22-year-old. It was suggested that Metz valued the player at around £17 million.

Tavolieri reiterates today that the Metz board is hopeful of bringing in such a fee. The French outfit feel confident that by waiting, they will eventually get what they’re asking for.

Wolves may be waiting on Fabio Silva

So this could be good news for Wolves if they do indeed like Mikautadze.

That said, it’s possible Wanderers won’t move for him unless Silva leaves.

If Silva is going to stay at Molineux, then there isn’t much point in the club moving for Mikautadze, who is a similar age.

Lopetegui would have three strikers, plus Hwang, so there wouldn’t be much need.

But it has been reported Silva would like to leave Wolves this summer. So the club may be waiting to see if that comes to fruition.
