Player’s club now ready to sell him in January after claim Wolves saw £17m bid rejected

A transfer opportunity may await Wolves in January, with one player’s club ready to sell him.

Wolves had a chaotic summer window that ended with six new faces, but many more departures.

Game-changing stars like Matheus Cunha, Pablo Sarabia and Rayan Ait-Nouri all left, and the club have brought in players who don’t have Premier League experience, making them gambles.

One position Wolves didn’t address in the end though was the goalkeeper.

There was talk of Sam Johnstone leaving but he stayed, and there was next to no speculation about a departure for Jose Sa. And Tom King left for Everton.

But Wolves were reported to have made an unsuccessful bid for Christos Mandas, and now an update has arrived on the Greek stopper.

Mandas is currently battling to be Lazio’s number one.

He and Ivan Provedel are fighting it out, with Mandas having been stuck on the bench so far this season.

The Italian giants are now reportedly considering selling Mandas in January according to Tuttomercatoweb, as they want to raise funds and boost their transfer kitty.

Wolves have tracked Mandas for around two years, and it remains to be seen if the club will make a play for him in January, after reportedly failing with an offer in the summer.

It could very much depend on the form of both Sa and Johnstone.

One potential issue Wolves could face though is if they are in the relegation zone when the January window opens, players may be hesitant to come.

But Wolves do need to be thinking about signing a younger goalkeeper for the long term, and the 24-year-old Mandas could be a good candidate.

Wolves moving for Mandas in January feels unlikely

While Wolves could do with freshening up their goalkeeping union, a move for Mandas in January doesn’t feel especially likely.

Vitor Pereira has seemed quite a big fan of Sa since he came in, and Pereira also praised Johnstone after the defeat to Newcastle, stating he is happy with the Englishman.

Unless both Sa and Johnstone are in catastrophic form heading into the next window, there is probably little need for Wolves to think about a new goalkeeper.

Next summer though, it is certainly a position that should be high on the agenda, and hopefully Wolves will still be a Premier League club in order to attract either Mandas, or another solid goalkeeper.
