Pedro Neto pens emotional farewell letter to Wolves fans on social media after joining Chelsea

Pedro Neto has penned an emotional farewell to Wolves fans, after he completed a move to Chelsea on Sunday.

The winger became the club’s second sale of the summer, and has joined the Blues in a deal worth £54 million.

It just about makes Neto the new record sale at Wolves, following Matheus Nunes’ move to Manchester City a year ago.

It was something that many Wolves fans had seen coming. There had been lots of speculation about Neto’s future at the start of the summer following his great 2023/24 campaign.

But he then joined the Wolves squad for the pre-season trip to Miami, and some then started to wonder if he could be staying, with Gary O’Neil also stating that he would be confident of that.

But things moved quickly, and Neto is no longer a Wolves player.

Neto has brought to an end a five-year spell at Wolves.

He joined from Braga in the summer of 2019 after a loan spell at Lazio, and came to Molineux at the same time as midfielder Bruno Jordao.

Neto quickly established himself as an exciting prospect. His speed and dribbling made him extremely exciting to watch.

Unfortunately though, Neto struggled with injuries during his time at Molineux. In April 2021 he suffered a serious knee injury, which prevented him from playing at the Euros that summer.

He missed a large chunk of the following season as a result.

Neto then sustained a serious ankle injury in October 2022, and last term, he suffered two fairly serious hamstring injuries.

But when Neto was fit and firing, he was truly exhilarating to watch, and his exit stings for a lot of people.

Neto was a firm fan favourite, and yesterday – after an agreement was reached for his transfer on Saturday – he sent a final message on Instagram to the Wolves fans as he prepares to embark on a new journey at Chelsea.

He said: “Hey, Wolves family. This is a tough one for me. After five years of incredible moments, highs, lows, and everything in between, it’s time for me to say goodbye.

“I remember the first time I put on the old gold shirt I was so proud. And from that moment, you welcomed me as one of your own. You believed in me, you lifted me up, and together, we created memories that I’ll carry with me forever.

“It wasn’t just about the goals or the victories. It was about the connection we built the love and passion that runs through this club and this city. You made me feel like I belonged, and that’s something I’ll never forget.

“Leaving isn’t easy. But I know this isn’t the end it’s just a new chapter. I’ll always carry Wolves in my heart, and I’ll always be grateful for every single one of you who cheered me on, who believed in me, who made me feel at home.

“Thank you, Wolves family, for everything. I’ll miss you, but I know our paths will cross again. Until then, I’ll be cheering you on from wherever I am. Once a Wolf, always a Wolf..”

Neto will be missed

While he did spend a lot of time on the sidelines through injury, Neto was often a real game-changer for Wolves and he will be missed.

The Portuguese forward was unplayable when he was on song, and there will probably be times this season when Wolves will struggle to break down a defence.

But Wolves have some other really talented attacking players, who will now need to step up.

The capture of Rodrigo Gomes is exciting, and fans will hope he can follow in Neto’s footsteps.
