Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis accuses Wolves star Daniel Podence of being ‘difficult’

Wolves fans are waiting to see what transpires with Daniel Podence today, with the player likely leaving the club.

Gary O’Neil said after the win over Burnley on Wednesday that he expected the winger to remain at Molineux for the 2024/25 season.

But earlier today, it was reported that Al-Shabab were closing in on him.

Now, Al-Shabab have not been the only club hoping to sign Podence.

Olympiacos, who took him on loan last season, have been very hopeful of re-signing him this summer, with the player really shining for them in 2023/24.

But for the moment, a move to Saudi looks a lot more likely and now, Evangelos Marinakis has made some interesting comments.

Podence still being a Wolves player at this point is something not many people expected.

The 29-year-old spent last season away from Molineux, with O’Neil having said last summer that Podence did not share Wolves’ goals for the season.

He was allowed to depart, with Wolves extending his contract by a year at the time.

The expectation was that Podence would leave. But then he went on the pre-season trip to Marbella and impressed.

He has also featured in all three of Wolves’ games so far this season.

Olympiacos have wanted to re-sign him, but seemingly, Podence has been making it hard for them.

Their owner Evangelos Marinakis is quoted by Sport 24 as saying: “We until the last minute are looking for something good, something very good and we have done it many times before. All summer we hear names, we may contradict once or twice but that’s not our job.

“Regarding the issue of Podense, until today we expected him but also what he asks for and the way he thinks has made it very difficult. The offers we have given are unrealistic by Greek standards.

“We should not run away, keep an eye on it and look for other solutions. Let’s not forget we have players in our team who have stood out, as well as the young guys.”

Podence set for Saudi

By the sounds of this, Podence is heading for Saudi.

Seemingly, the player’s demands have priced the Greek giants out, and Marinakis doesn’t sound particularly happy about the situation.

But Podence seems to be keen to go to the SPL, and that is a bit of a shame for those who wanted him to stay at Molineux.

Podence has shown over pre-season and in the first few games that he would have plenty to offer O’Neil’s squad.
