‘Oh dear’… Wolves fans left unsettled after what Vitor Pereira just admitted

Wolves fans are hoping to see the club keep the momentum going after signing Fer Lopez – but some new comments from Vitor Pereira have caused a bit of a stir.

Wolves landed the Spaniard from Celta Vigo earlier this week, having reached an agreement on personal terms and fee last weekend.

Lopez becomes Wolves’ ninth-most expensive signing of all-time, and fans can’t wait to see what he can bring.

The club have been keen to downplay any suggestions Lopez could be a Matheus Cunha replacement.

Steve Bull has urged fans to be patient over Lopez, and has also stated the youngster cannot be expected to replace Cunha.

But Wolves must now keep the ball rolling, and transfer speculation has been plentiful.

But some new comments from Vitor Pereira have surfaced today, which have left some feeling a little concerned.

Pereira has made no secret of the fact he wants to improve the squad for 2025/26.

The Portuguese knows he did well after replacing Gary O’Neil, and his January signings certainly helped.

But some new quotes from the Spanish publication Marca have emerged, with Pereira expressing his concern about transfers so far. He is quoted as saying: “I didn’t come to the Premier League to fight to avoid relegation. I came here with the idea of building a strong, consistent project.

“My goal is to create a competitive team that can compete against anyone, and both the club and I are looking for solutions. My ambition, and that of the fans, will be even higher next season.

“We have a good, strong team, but I’m a little worried about the situation [of losing players]. We must bring in quality players because expectations are growing.”

The admission that he’s worried, has in turn led to some worry in the fanbase.

@rusno1: “Oh dear.”

@lewis_wwfc77: “Here we go again.”

@StPaul197173: “Fosun talk the talk about lessons learnt and backing you. Let’s hope it’s not another false dawn.”

@wanderersgloba1: “I feel bad for him. He doesn’t know yet…”

@mark_spruce: “Where have we heard this before.”

Fosun cannot leave Pereira short

The concern from some Wolves fans about the comments from Pereira over transfers are understandable.

If Pereira had absolute faith in those above him that several players are going to come in, then he may not have made these comments.

The last three Wolves managers before him – Gary O’Neil, Julen Lopetegui and Bruno Lage, all spoke publicly about the need to strengthen.

Lage later admitted he was never forceful enough at Wolves over transfers, and Lopetegui left the club after feeling his higher-ups moved the goalposts on him regarding recruitment.

That all said, it is still early in the window, and judgement ought to be reserved until it closes.

But after it was claimed ‘the penny has dropped’ for Wolves executives, who apparently recognised the need to spend more, these remarks from Pereira are a tad concerning.
