Nuno Espirito Santo eyeing shock reunion with former Wolves star who made 194 appearances at Molineux

After multiple seasons of surviving relegation, the expectations from Wolves fans heading into the 2025/26 campaign are relatively low.

The Wanderers seem to regress in every summer transfer window, failing to replace their star players due to Fosun’s reluctance to spend money.

Although Vitor Pereira is targeting a mid-table finish, unless Wolves significantly strengthen in the coming weeks, another relegation battle could be on the cards.

It says a lot when newly-promoted Sunderland are showing more ambition than Wolves, having spent around £100 million on new signings to give themselves the best opportunity to survive.

Most fans just wish the vibe around the club could return to how it was in 2019, when Nuno Espirito Santo led his side into the Europa League with a squad of iconic Wolves players.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to sign Adama Traore for Nottingham Forest

Adama Traore was one star who lit up Molineux during their golden era of finishing in Europe, devastating the opposition with his freakish strength and electric speed.

Traore boasted every attribute that made him unstoppable on his day, until he was required to produce a moment of quality at the end, with the Spaniard only registering 14 goals and 19 assists in 194 appearances for the club.

In 2023, Fulham signed Traore from Wolves, and since then, he’s continued striking fear into opposing defenders and, more importantly, improved his output with 16 goal involvements in 59 matches.

However, with his contract expiring in 2026, the 29-year-old could leave Craven Cottage this summer, and according to ESPN, the former Barcelona man could reunite with Nuno at Nottingham Forest.

The report claims that Traore is weighing up his options and one of those are Forest, who are considering signing him.

Nuno’s men are preparing for a campaign in the Europa Conference League or Europa League, depending on whether they replace Crystal Palace in the latter, and that is why the former Wolves manager is looking to bolster his attack.

What Nuno Espirito Santo has said about Traore

With Anthony Elanga joining Newcastle United, the Portuguese boss could see Traore as someone who could replace his lightning pace on the counter.

During his time at Molineux, Nuno was open about his love for the winger, once dubbing him ‘unique’ and ‘special’ in 2020.

“He must keep working,” Nuno said via Sky Sports. “Adama is a special player, he is unique, and I think when he is on the pitch he already has an impact on the game.

“Of course he has things to improve and then after that it is our decision how we use players and manage the team in the game plan and the moment.

“The momentum and the moment we are in after three months of activity, we have a lot of things to judge on and try to make the right decisions.”
