Nightmare for Vitor Pereira as Fabrizio Romano drops crushing Wolves transfer update on Marc Pubill

Wolves’ transfer for Marc Pubill appears to be off after Fabrizio Romano dropped a dramatic update this evening.

Wolves had appeared on course to sign Pubill, with Romano suggesting an agreement was close.

Pubill was then left out of Almeria’s Marbella training camp, indicating a move was in the offing.

But it appears, now, that Wolves will miss out entirely.

In the last moments, Fabrizio Romano – who had initially said about Wolves advancing for Pubill – has dramatically reported that Atletico Madrid have swooped in for Pubill.

He said: “Atlético Madrid have hijacked Marc Pubill deal and agreement has been reached with Wolves (Almeria), here we go!

“Atléti closed the deal this afternoon after fast negotiations with Almería, all the documents are signed. Five year contract for Pubill.”

The development is a nightmare for Wolves, who still need a replacement for Nelson Semedo. Pubill had emerged as their top choice.

Vitor Pereira suggested Semedo won’t return for Wolves and that the club were looking to replace him.

But Pubill will now not be that man, with Atletico Madrid now even confirming that they are signing the player.

Pressure on for Wolves amid shocking Pubill development

What has happened here with Pubill just shows how nothing is certain until a player is actually holding up the shirt of his new team.

There can always be twists and turns, and unfortunately Wolves have now missed out.

Pubill would have been a great signing, so it’s a huge shame he has gone to Atletico Madrid.

The only crumb of comfort is that Pubill perhaps never truly wanted Wolves, and so it may be a positive not to be signing a player who didn’t necessarily have Wanderers as his first choice.

The reasons Wolves failed to get this deal done will likely soon come out, but one thing is for sure – Wolves are now under big pressure to respond.

This will not go down well with fans, who will demand an alternative be signed as soon as possible.
