New signing Emmanuel Agbadou claims former Wolves star is ‘like a big brother’

Wolves have secured their first signing of 2025 as Emmanuel Agbadou joins Vitor Pereira’s side.

The Old Gold have finally reinforced their backline. Despite selling former captain Max Kilman in the summer, Wolves did not bring in a replacement.

This has helped oversee the collapse of Wolves’ backline which has led them into an intense relegation battle.

Thankfully, on Thursday morning, Wolves had confirmed the signing of Agbadou who will help re-secure the club’s defensive prowess.

Now, the defender has revealed that he has a surprising link to the Old Gold through one of the club’s former stars.

With Agbadou coming from French side Reims, many fans would forgive the defender if he had no previous connection with Wolves

However, in his first interview since signing up for the club, the Ivory Coast international confirmed that Willy Boly had helped sway the centre-half into joining Old Gold.

Boly had been at Wolves from 2017-22 and helped oversee Wolves’ promotion to the Premier League

However, since leaving the club for Nottingham Forest, it appears that he still has a high opinion of the Old Gold.

Agbadou stated: “I’m happy to be here. This is a great team, an historic club, and I’m just waiting to making my debit.

“I know one African player [Willy Boly] who played here a few years ago, and I was following the club before, so I know that it’s a good team.

“I knew the team before I came, so this is not a surprise for me to be here, so I’m happy.”

He also added: “My first impression is the city is very nice, and the stadium also. The coach told me that the atmosphere is amazing, so I waiting to see that

“[Boly]’s told me that also. He’s like my big brother, so we talk a lot about family, so he speaks to me about Wolverhampton and he told me good things.”

Emmanuel Agbadou can take inspiration from Willy Boly

Boly was one of the last consistently good defenders Wolves had. If Agbadou wants to be inspired by any past Wolves player, Boly is a perfect place to start.

Little got past the defender when he was on form and he helped inspire the club to back-to-back seventh-place finishes.

If it wasn’t for injuries, the centre-half would arguably still be at the club to this day.

Hopefully, Agbadou can replicate these performances and help pull Wolves to Premier League survival.
