Nathan Collins might have signed for Manchester United before he made Wolves move

Wolves signed Nathan Collins last summer – but it has been claimed the Republic of Ireland defender was actually on Manchester United’s radar.

The star moved to Molineux for just over £20 million from Burnley, and featured heavily in the first half of the season.

Collins struck up a promising partnership with Max Kilman very early on. But the pair started to struggl in the lead up to the World Cup.

Julen Lopetegui then came in and decided he wanted an experienced centre-back, and Craig Dawson was his top target.

Wanderers failed to sign him in the summer. But succeeded in bringing him in in January.

Since his arrival, Dawson has been superb and played a massive part in Wolves sealing their safety.

Collins dropped out of the team for Dawson, and has not started in the Premier League since the game against Manchester City on January 22.

But his time will come, and Wolves do have a very promising player on their hands.

An interesting claim was made yesterday about Collins. According to the Daily Mail, he was recommended to United boss Erik ten Hag by Darren Fletcher.

In the end, ten Hag made a move for the centre-back he worked with Ajax, Lisandro Martinez, instead.

And ten Hag will be happy with how the Argentine has fared in his first season in England.

Wolves will be thankful Erik ten Hag ignored advice to complete Nathan Collins transfer

This is interesting information about Collins and it’s something that Wolves could eventually look back on and be grateful.

Collins has had a somewhat indifferent first season with Wolves.

But he will eventually come good for Wanderers. You can see he has the attributes to become a top Premier League centre-half.

Fans should be happy Wolves were able to bring him to Molineux.

He will definitely show what he’s about later down the line. It’s easy to forget that he’s still only just turned 22.
