Carlos Forbs has headed back to Ajax after spending the season on loan at Wolves.
The star was Wolves’ final signing of the summer 2024 window, arriving on deadline day in a loan deal from the Dutch giants.
Wolves had loaned out Chiquinho at the same time, and hopes were high over Forbs, who told Wolves fans that he was a direct player, and someone who likes to beat his man.
But sadly, the Molineux faithful rarely got to see this.
Forbs barely featured under Gary O’Neil, who preferred the likes of Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-chan, Pablo Sarabia and Goncalo Guedes.
Then, when Vitor Pereira came in, Carlos Forbs’ playing prospects plummeted even further.
Perhaps inevitably, Wolves recently confirmed Forbs is heading back to Ajax and won’t be signed permanently. Pereira had said Forbs didn’t really fit his system at Wolves – and now, the next step for him seems pretty clear.
Carlos Forbs set to be sold by Ajax after Wolves struggles

It’s thought Wolves had an obligation to buy clause over Forbs, worth £11.4 million.
But this clause was based on appearances made. Apparently Forbs had to make around 10 starts, but he came well short.
The winger’s last appearance for the club came against Leicester City in April, when he came on for the closing minutes at Molineux.
Fans were not shocked whatsoever when Wolves confirmed he was heading back to Ajax, and now, it seems the plan is for him to leave them on a permanent basis, with the player not in their plans according to Danny Blind
Blind, who is on the club’s Supervisory Board, said: “He was loaned out to Wolves with the intention of being sold permanently.
“Carlos has not played enough there and will therefore return to Ajax with a contract. There are obligations, but in principle you hope that a club will come for him.”

Forbs a major disappointment at Wolves
There was excitement when Forbs signed, because he had been fairly prolific in the Manchester City academy before he went to Ajax.
But he just didn’t get the opportunities, which is both a shame and disappointing.
Ultimately, Forbs has to earn the chances and seemingly, both O’Neil and Pereira were not convinced by him.

And now, the intention for Ajax is to sell him, which must be a further kick in the teeth.
Hopefully, he can settle at his next club and make an impact.
Forbs could well end up exploding later in his career if he makes the right move for him. But certainly, Wolves need not have any regrets here, even if that does end up happening. There simply hasn’t been enough evidence to keep him.
