Millwall boss addresses rumours surrounding Wolves-linked Japhet Tanganga

Wolves have already had an active January transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad throughout the month.

Wolves have wasted no time in the transfer market. The club have been desperate for a centre-back since Yerson Mosquera picked up an ACL injury in September.

This left the club particularly short on centre-halves which has resulted in them having the worst record in the Premier League.

Emmanuel Agbadou has now been signed by Wolves to strengthen this area. However, it is believed that the club could bring in a second face to reinforce their defence further.

One centre-back who has been linked to Wolves in recent weeks has been Japhet Tanganga

The defender has been a star performer for Millwall since he made the move from Spurs in the summer.

However, despite the rumours surrounding the Old Gold and Tanganga, Millwall boss Alex Neil has stated there has been no ‘serious interest’ in the centre half so far.

He told South London Press: “But it is just speculation. I’m not going to say that to you (that he will be staying) and Japhet is going to leave tomorrow. But I’m unaware of anything apart from probably paper talk surrounding Japhet.

“There has not been any discussion in regards to anybody showing any serious interest in Japhet.”

Japhet Tanganga’s transfer to Wolves not yet ruled out

From a Wolves point of view, these comments could be seen as positive. Neil did not rule out a sale of Tanganga but rather stated no interest is currently ‘serious’.

If Wolves do indeed want further reinforcements at the back, Tanganga could still be a viable and good option.

The defender is still only 25 years old and has Premier League experience after coming through Spurs’ academy.

Only time will tell with how the saga develops but there is nothing to suggest that this transfer is impossible yet.
