Matt Jackson explains why Wolves have sold Jeong Sang-bin to Minnesota United

Wolves have officially sold Jeong Sang-bin to Minnesota United.

The club have confirmed the South Korean youngster has joined the MLS club, after he only signed for Wolves in January 2022.

Journalist Tom Bogert claimed recently that a move to the States was in the offing.

He joined from Suwon Samsung Bluewings, after enjoying a fine breakthrough campaign with the K League side. He scored six goals in 24 games.

Wolves snapped up the 20-year-old, who has been known as ‘the Korean Mbappe’, and then immediately loaned him out to Grasshoppers in Switzerland.

He made 13 senior appearances during his time in Zurich, scoring twice.

Strategic Player Marketing Manager Matt Jackson said of the decision to sell Jeong (Wolves official): “With all of our decisions when it comes to players leaving the club, we want to ensure the moves work for all parties involved, but especially the players.

“We felt this was a really good opportunity for Sang-bin to further his development and get the regular game time that he now needs.”

It is the third time this year wolves have done business with an MLS club. Yerson Mosquera joined FC Cincinnati on loan in January.

And Connor Ronan left the club to join Colorado Rapids on a permanent deal.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the official announcement from Wolves, is the line that the club has made a ‘significant financial return’ on Jeong.

The club reportedly signed him for around £1 million.

There is currently no word on how much Minnesota United have paid for him.
