Marshall Munetsi’s first words as a Wolves player – fans will be excited about one thing he said he’ll bring to the club

Wolves were one of the busiest Premier League clubs on deadline day, bringing two new players through the doors at Molineux.

Manager Vitor Pereira had demanded signings from Wolves late in the window in order to attempt to stave off the looming threat of relegation to the Championship. The Old Gold current sit just two points above 18th-placed Leicester City, and only recently moved up to 17th in the league table thanks to a shock 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Molineux.

Thankfully for Pereira and Wolves’ fans, the club were able to get those much-needed deals over the line, acquiring centre-back Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade and central midfielder Marshall Munetsi from Reims on the final day of the winter market.

The latter is seen by many as a replacement for the outgoing Mario Lemina, who is set to be confirmed as a Galatasaray player imminently, and a signing who can provide some much-needed physical qualities to the Wolves midfield.

As well as those abilities to break up play in the middle of the park, Munetsi has revealed something else he’ll bring to the club which could be crucial in the relegation dogfight.

Marshall Munetsi tells Wolves fans what they can expect from him after deadline day transfer

Speaking to the club’s official website in his first interview as a Wolves player, Munetsi discussed what fans can expect from their new star midfielder following his £16.6m move.

The midfielder explained that he intends to be a ‘leader’ in the middle of the park for Pereira’s side, leaning on his experiences as Reims’ former vice-captain to do so:

“I think in as a much as we play football, we learn a lot,” said Munetsi. “Being a leader is something that is not easy, but you also have to nurture yourself.

“You have to learn how to help others, how to guide, how to lead by example, on and off the pitch. So, I think that’s something that I’ll be able to bring to Wolves, considering what I’ve also produced here at Reims. I think it’s some of the qualities that I do have on and off the pitch.”

The midfielder also took the time to share how he felt about making the move from Reims to Wolves late in the winter transfer window.

The 28-year-old told club press that the transfer is a ‘dream come true’ as he is joining a ‘bigger club’:

“I’m delighted. It’s a dream come true for me. I’ve always wanted to be part of something big, and being part of Wolves is something that is very big for me, and is big for my family.

“It’s a team that I’ve also seen from afar, and the Premier League is the best place to be, so I’m delighted to join the family, to join the team.

“I’m very excited. It’s probably going to be the first time I’ve had a big opportunity to be representing a bigger club. Nothing against Reims, but now you’re going to be playing in the Premier League, playing for Wolves. Also, we have a greater population in England for Zimbabwean, I think I will feel even more at home than what I was doing in France.”

Munetsi could be in line to make his Wolves debut on Sunday 9th February when the club take on Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
