Marc Pubill to Wolves takes another step forward as one reason AC Milan backed out now shared

Wolves fans are hoping to see two new faces come through the door this week, with one of those being Marc Pubill.

Vitor Pereira said Wolves are looking to replace Nelson Semedo now, with supporters still in the dark over his situation.

But Semedo’s silence speaks a thousand words – if he was signing Wolves’ offer, he would have done so by now.

In recent days, Wolves’ pursuit of Marc Pubill has intensified, suggesting Semedo is indeed not going to be re-signing.

Fabrizio Romano reported late on Monday night that Wolves were close to an agreement for Pubill.

And now, the pursuit has taken another positive step for Wolves.

Wolves are to complete a move for Jhon Arias after Fluminense announced his transfer.

A deal was agreed last week, and the Colombian will become Wanderers’ second signing.

And the hope is that Pubill will swiftly follow as the third signing and it looks as though everything is on track.

Now, Diario De Almeria has reported that the Almeria squad left this morning to go to their pre-season training camp in Marbella – and Pubill did not join his teammates.

He has just returned from his holiday and is expected to stay in Almeria until his move to Wolves is finalised.

Currently, it is not thought that Wolves have made a ‘formal’ offer for Pubill.

Why Marc Pubill did not join AC Milan

So Wolves now look to be in a good position to sign Pubill from Almeria.

Pubill was actually strongly linked with AC Milan recently as well as Wolves, and had even apparently done a preliminary medical.

One year ago, Pubill had been set to join Italian side Atalanta, but at the time of his medical a knee issue came up. It was said to have required further specialist investigation.

Pubill has previously said that he passed the medical but in the end, Atalanta chose to back away from the deal (via milannnews.it).

The purpose of the preliminary medical at Milan was for them to understand the stability of the knee.

But there were no concerns for Milan over the knee.

One of the main reasons they pulled out in the end was because of manager Max Allegri simply preferring other profiles, according to milannews.it.

The Spaniard wasn’t wholly convincing to Allegri, who is ‘more oriented towards players like Guela Doué and Wilfred Singo’.

Pubill to Wolves now off after dramatic hijack by Atletico Madrid

Tonight, in a dramatic twist, Atletico Madrid have now hijacked Wolves move for Pubill, meaning it’s back to the drawing board for Pereira.

It is a frustrating blow, with Wolves needing a new right-back to replace Semedo.

The pressure is certainly now on for the Wolves board to respond to this setback, as time is really of the essence with the new Premier League season starting in just a few weeks.
