Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, following his tremendous season so far.
Gomes‘ stock has soared this season, after he stepped into the midfield as Ruben Neves‘ replacement following the Portuguese midfielder’s exit last summer.
Gomes took the star’s number eight shirt, but has seemingly not felt any kind of pressure and delivered a string of top performances this term alongside Mario Lemina in the engine room.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs suggested recently that clubs were already in contact with him about Gomes, given how good he has been – and now, it looks as though Manchester United are ready to try and sign the star this summer…
Manchester United interested in signing Joao Gomes from Wolves this summer

It has been reported by the Mirror today that Manchester United are interested in a potential deal for Wolves star Joao Gomes this summer.
United have apparently watched Gomes several times already this season, most recently when Wolves defeated Fulham 2-1.
It is stated that Gomes is valued at around £40 million, which is somewhat questionable.
Apparently, the Red Devils have identified Gomes as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro, with there being reservations about the 32-year-old’s mobility.
United will have first caught wind of Gomes’ potential in the very first game of the season. He and Lemina dominated the game that night, despite Wolves going on to lose 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Wanderers only signed Gomes in January of last year, landing him for just £15 million from Flamengo. The 23-year-old is under contract at Molineux until the summer of 2028.
Man United would have to do far better than £40m to land Gomes
Gomes has been brilliant for Wolves this season and it is no surprise we are now seeing reports of huge clubs being interested in signing him.
He has been integral, alongside Lemina, to the way Wolves have played under Gary O’Neil, and the Brazilian has all the ingredients to become a top player.
Manchester United are going to have to offer much more than £40 million if they want to sign Gomes this summer.
He’s under contract until the summer of 2028 which puts Wolves in a very strong position to negotiate. Realistically, Wolves aren’t going to be under much pressure this summer to sell key players, especially if Pedro Neto departs for big money as expected.
Gomes – who’s been described as ‘a super talent’ by O’Neil – will have his own ambitions, and will surely want to play for a huge club someday. But right now he’s very happy at Wolves and has been from the start – his desperation to join from Flamengo was very clear, and was something that endeared him straight away to the Molineux faithful.
You get the feeling that the £30,000-a-week star will not agitate for a move away this summer, after what the club have done for him and his development so far.
