Manchester United are reported to be big fans of one of Wolves’ most promising players.
Many Molineux stars had really good campaigns in 2023/24, with Gary O’Neil coming in and improving pretty much everyone to some extent.
The forward players thrived in particular, with Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan both enjoying their best-scoring seasons.
But there was also a lot of praise for the players in Wolves‘ engine room.
Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes provided energy, tenacity and intensity, and were both crucial to Wolves having the good season they had. Without their efforts, Wolves may well have finished lower down.
Gomes really stepped up following the sale of Ruben Neves last term, and he has certainly drawn attention to himself as a result.
Manchester United ‘really like’ Joao Gomes at Wolves and could come calling

2023/24 ended on a high for United as they beat rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
But they fell well short of expectations in the Premier League, finishing in eighth place in the end.
United are now under new guidance after the takeover by INEOS earlier this year, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to oversee an overhaul.
United’s midfield is poor and they are now looking for new recruits.
Journalist Ben Jacobs told Give Me Sport that Gomes could be someone United come calling for. He said: “There’s Joao Gomes at Wolves, another name that Manchester United really like. And there’s Edson Alvarez at West Ham.
“So what we’re sort of seeing predominantly is a recruitment approach in a lot of positions at Manchester United towards proven Premier League quality.”
United were first linked with Gomes earlier this year. It was suggested that he could be brought in as a long-term replacement for Casemiro.
Wolves must not sell Gomes under any circumstances
Gomes is one of the few Wolves players who should actually be deemed nontransferable this summer.
The £30,000-a-week star’s impact on the team has been absolutely amazing, and his partnership with Lemina in midfield went from strength to strength last season.
You can clearly see that £15 million signing Gomes is on a pathway to becoming a very special player. Indeed, Micah Richards said earlier this year that he felt the Brazilian was going to the top level.
After Wolves’ win over Fulham earlier this year, Cunha branded Gomes’ performance ‘absurd’, he was that impressed.
He has only been in England since January 2023, and has only had one full season of regular football under his belt and this is how good he already is.
It is far too soon to be selling. Wolves don’t need to do it – there are several others that should be cashed in on before The Pitbull, whose market value could absolutely soar in the next couple of years.
