Liam Keen shares Matheus Cunha replacement twist coming out of Wolves

Wolves look set to have agreed personal terms for a new signing that can play as an attacking midfielder.

Wolves recently lost Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, with the Brazilian signing for the English giants on June 1.

This has left a vacancy in the creative role for Wolves, with the club and manager Vitor Pereira hopeful of finding a replacement quickly ahead of pre-season.

Wolves fans were angered by Cunha’s latest comments on social media after he shared the message ‘It’s all about following your dreams’ while holding a printed picture of himself wearing a United shirt.

For all of the baggage that comes with the 26-year-old, including his incredibly poor attitude, he is a world-class player.

This has left a vacancy in the creative role for Wolves, with the club and manager Vitor Pereira hopeful of finding a replacement quickly ahead of pre-season.

The Wolves manager has seemingly identified an attacking midfielder as a target he wants to join the club to help cover the Brazilian, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last term.

Fer Lopez is not a direct replacement for Matheus Cunha

Sports journalist Liam Keen took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a twist about the reported new signing Wolves have agreed terms with.

He is reporting that Fer Lopez will not be a direct replacement for Cunha, instead being seen as one of a couple of replacements in that role.

This may be due to the underwhelming statistics and lack of experience the Spaniard has in comparison to the Brazilian.

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Fer Lopez has agreed to personal terms with Wolves.

The deal has reportedly been agreed with his agent, and now the two clubs, Wolves and Celta Vigo, just have to come to an agreement on the fee.

Fer Lopez’s stats compared to Matheus Cunha’s

Cunha was vital to Wolves last season as he helped guide them to safety in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in the competition.

While Lopez could only muster two goals in his 17 games for Celta Vigo last season.

As highlighted by FBref, Lopez only had an xG of 2.7 across the season and only 30 shot-creating actions.

In comparison, Cunha had an xG of 8.6 and a total of 132 shot-creating actions, showing the strength of the player Wolves are losing and demonstrating the current gap between the players.
