Liam Keen shares the chances of Wolves signing Harvey Elliott from Liverpool

It’s been reported that Harvey Elliott is one player Wolves are keeping an eye on ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite striking gold in the Brazilian market in recent years, it’s thought that Wolves could look closer to home to revamp their midfield in the summer.

Elliott has been linked to Wolves as he continues to struggle to make a name for himself in Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad.

The Englishman is thought to be available for a transfer at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, with the rumours certainly splitting opinion among fans.

Liam Keen shares update on Harvey Elliott to Wolves transfer

Wolves fans were outraged after learning Elliott’s price tag, as the Premier League champions seek an eight-figure fee for the 22-year-old.

Amid the Old Gold’s interest, it’s understood that Liverpool are demanding £40m for Elliott, a price that is eye-wateringly high when considering the bargains Wolves have secured in recent windows.

As many were shocked by the links between the West Midlands club and the midfielder, journalist Liam Keen set the record straight on the rumours.

When asked if he could see Wolves signing Elliott in the summer, the Express and Star reporter highlighted one thing that makes a deal difficult to envisage.

“I think he’s a good player, I think he’d do really well at Wolves, definitely be keen. The thing that’s going to kill you straight away is we’re talking about £40m,” Keen said on the E&S Wolves Podcast.

“Wolves are just not going to spend that on players unless something major changes. Everything we’ve been told, everything we’re aware of from the previous plans is that they’re not going to spend this kind of money on players, and we don’t expect that to change.”

What came next from the Wolves expert will surprise some, as Keen confirmed that the club do in fact ‘like’ Elliott’s profile.

“However, Wolves do like him. I’m not going to say that he’s definitely not signing for this club in the summer, but I can say pretty comfortably that he’s not signing for this club for £40m.”

Keen informed fans that the Old Gold appreciate Elliott as a target, however, insisted that his £40m price tag would require considerable revision.

Wolves can’t spend £40m on Harvey Elliott

The Premier League tax on players in the transfer window is real, as in any other league, it’s difficult to imagine that a club would expect £40m for Elliott’s services.

That’s not to deny the midfielder’s quality, but having recorded just one Premier League start in a goalless 2024/25 league campaign, it’s bewildering that the Reds would think their asking price is appropriate.

1 start
19 minutes per game
0 goals
1 assist
0.1 shots on target per game
0.4 key passes per game
0.2 successful dribbles per game

What is especially concerning for Wolves is that, as an attacking midfielder who enjoys playing in the number ten role, Elliott could be regarded as the Old Gold’s replacement for Matheus Cunha.

In his 91 Premier League appearances, the Liverpool outsider has scored just four times, with Cunha eclipsing his tally with 29 goals in 12 fewer appearances.

Elliott could be a player that thrives under Vitor Pereira at Wolves, but for a £40m price tag, it’s unlikely that the Old Gold will be willing to take a gamble.
