There was a proud moment for Fabio Silva this week, as the Wolves striker received his first Portugal cap.
Silva has had a tough past few years after signing for Wolves from FC Porto, and the 22-year-old is currently on his fourth loan spell.
He’s playing for Las Palmas at the moment, with many surprised that Silva remains a Wolves owned-played at this point.
But it’s been a decent start for Silva in Spain, and he recently caught the eye of Roberto Martinez, who then handed him his maiden appearance against Croatia on Tuesday.
Silva’s father suggested this would have happened sooner had the striker never joined Wolves, stating that stability on continuity would perhaps have served the striker better.
Silva was a topic of discussion on the latest E&S podcast, and the fact he’s made his Portugal debut doesn’t appear to have changed the picture much.

Fabio Silva still likely to leave Wolves next summer

After he struggled at Rangers, many expected Silva to leave Molineux permanently this summer.
He played no part in pre-season for Wolves and it looked like he would be moving on. In the end he did, but only on loan as Las Palmas swooped.
Journalist Liam Keen has been speaking about Silva’s future on the latest E&S podcast. And seemingly, it’s likely he’ll be moving on next summer.
He said: “I don’t think you can say it’s 100% certain he leaves the club. Because if a new manager comes in he might desperately want Silva there and he might want him to stick around.
“But it’s as close to 100% as it could possibly be. I think the player is done and is ready to go, I think Wolves are done and are ready to let him go. But they also spent a lot of money on him. He’s got a couple of year left on his deal.
“They’ve wanted to get a permanent move for him for some time, as has the player and his people. But they’ve not been able to make it happen based on the money Wolves would have wanted for him.”
Wolves will hope for super Silva season
Never say never in football, but it looks highly unlikely that £80,000-a-week star Silva will play for Wolves again.
It was a transfer that was very exciting at the time. Wolves dropping that kind of money on a player surely meant they had a gem on their hands.
But the move is now widely regarded as one of the worst transfers in Wolves’ recent history, with Silva never really finding his feet in the old gold shirt.

It’s now all about Wolves recouping as much of their initial investment as possible. If they are able to get half of the initial £35 million fee, the club would probably be very happy.
Hopefully, Silva builds on the fact he now has his first Portugal cap, and shines at Las Palmas to bump up his market value.
