Liam Keen delivers promising transfer update after weeks of inactivity at Wolves

Wolves fans have been growing concerned by the lack of transfer activity over the last few weeks.

When Fer Lopez arrived, supporters were excited, and felt that his move would be the catalyst for more players to arrive.

But that has not been the case, with three weeks passing since Lopez signed.

Instead, a couple more players have left the club, with Tommy Doyle joining Birmingham City and Nasser Djiga sealing a move to Rangers.

There have been plenty of transfer links though since Lopez came in, although many have been from questionable sources.

But earlier today, Liam Keen spoke about the current situation at Wolves – and his comments are likely to make fans feel slightly better.

Pre-season is now commencing at Wolves, with several players returning to Compton Park.

The players will train there for a period, before flying out to Portugal for their first training campaign.

It is looking like Lopez will be the only new face boarding the plane.

But potentially, some new faces could be heading out to join the squad once they’re out there.

That’s because journalist Liam Keen has reported that Wolves are now closing in on a couple of deals, after weeks of inactivity.

He said on the latest Express & Star podcast: “I’m also very keen to make it clear that I’m not in the camp of panicking and rushing either because Wolves have worked on a couple of outgoings.

“They’ve been working on that.

We know that – and again, this might be news to fans – we know they’re getting close to a couple of additions as well. Working to figure out exactly who those players are and in what positions, but they are getting closer to getting a couple over the line.”

Wolves must sign the right profiles of players

So fans can probably expect some players to be signed quite soon now, based on Keen’s informational – especially with pre-season commencing.

What is absolutely paramount though is Wolves getting the right kind of player in.

Fer Lopez has arrived, and he is an exciting young player. Indeed, Lopez has been likened to Riyad Mahrez, but we may not see him thrive right away.

Wolves need to ensure they bring in ready-made players who can hit the ground running quickly.

Three top players have just left in Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia, and Vitor Pereira can’t hope to do much next season if he’s only given promising youngsters.

But surely that will not be the case, and the newly restructured team will surely recognise that.
