Liam Keen addresses Jose Sa’s future at Wolves amid speculation surrounding his future

Ahead of the new Premier League season, there are strong rumours suggesting that Wolves want to add a new goalkeeper to their roster.

Jose Sa has been the first choice between the sticks at the Old Gold for the past three seasons after Rui Patricio left the club.

The Portuguese international has been largely successful and won the Wolves Player of the Season Award at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

However, throughout the summer, there have been strong rumours that suggest Gary O’Neil wants to add a new goalkeeper to his ranks.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale has consistently been linked to Wolves throughout 2024. On top of this, the Old Gold reportedly bid for Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas earlier this week.

Now, just days before the start of the new campaign, journalist Liam Keen has addressed the future of Sa.

Fans are hopeful that multiple positions receive reinforcements over the coming weeks before the transfer window shuts.

However, any hoping for a new first-team goalkeeper to take over Sa’s spot may be disappointed.

Speaking to Robbie Meakin, Keen said: “I’ve spoken all summer saying that there is every chance that Sa could go and it depends on the player.

“He has turned around in previous summers and said ‘I kind of fancy moving’ and then has changed his mind or a move hasn’t materialised and he has stuck around.

“At this point now, I would be surprised if it happened because Wolves are going to need a decent replacement when the season has already started. I find that the goalkeeping department is a tricky place so I don’t see anything happening and they’ll be happy to go into the season with Jose Sa.”

Sa is arguably one of the most underrated players at Wolves. Despite the occasional mistake, the goalkeeper more than makes up for it with numerous stunning saves throughout the season.

There were many moments during the 2023/24 campaign where the Portuguese international seemingly pulled off the impossible, such as his magnificent save against Everton to give O’Neil his first Premier League victory at Wolves.

While a new goalkeeper could potentially be better than Sa, with the limited funds the club has available, investments are needed elsewhere.
