Lage gives special mention to Chiquinho after another lively cameo for Wolves

Bruno Lage put in a little mention for Chiquinho yesterday, after the winger made another lively cameo appearance for Wolves.

The club are up to seventh in the Premier League table, after a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Molineux.

It was a fine performance from Wanderers. They simply had too much for Villa who were all over the shop at times.

There was a real intensity about Wolves, with the players clearly looking to atone for the capitulation against Leeds United.

It was brilliant to see how Wolves got players forward often.

That left Alan Shearer particularly impressed on Match of the Day.

Lage was obviously pleased with the performance. And after the game, he gave praise to a player that only featured for a brief period at the end.

He said of Chiquinho (via Birmingham Mail): “In the first half, Daniel (Podence) or Jonny tried to win aerial duels against (Tyrone) Mings, I need to see Fabio – he has the same body as me, but he needs to go there and try to win duels. It’s about the mentality and showing every time that he wants it.

“Look at Chiquinho. Sometimes he only plays five or 10 minutes, but every time he goes on, he goes with everything to try and win the duels.

“Everyone needs to do that because this level of competition is very high.”

Chiquinho’s time will come at Wolves, as Lage showers praise

He is currently only getting cameo appearances. But one gets the feeling that Chiquinho is eventually going to be a success at Wolves.

He has clearly made an impression on the manager.

Clearly, he was not somebody Lage was talking about when he spoke about young players not working hard after the Crystal Palace defeat.

For Lage to say that everybody needs to come with the same attitude as Chiquinho really bodes well for the youngster.

The competition is fierce at the moment. But he keeps doing as he’s doing, he’ll eventually get to start more games.
